Exciting progress is underway at the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre (RMDC) as we move forward with Phase Two of our Renewal Project! The City of Rossland has officially posted a Request for Qualification (RFQ) for the construction of the Atrium Addition and accessibility renovations at RMDC.
This next stage of development will enhance our museum’s infrastructure, ensuring a more immersive, accessible, and engaging visitor experience. The project includes key structural, mechanical, electrical, and architectural enhancements, along with sustainability-focused updates.

Qualified construction firms are invited to express their interest by March 19, 2025. The City of Rossland will shortlist up to three firms to move forward in the Request for Proposal stage.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
This project includes work associated with the construction of a building addition adjacent to the current RMDC building and necessary renovations to the existing building. Work is to comprise several areas including, but not limited to, Environmental, Geotechnical, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Architectural.
Environmental: the removal of hazardous material within an area of the existing building and possible testing of excavated soil.
Geotechnical: site assessment prior to Civil and Structural work.
Civil: extension of a municipal water line, creation of a new parking lot with associated water catchment and drainage features, as well as the routing of a new paved pathway and stairs.
Structural: removing sections of the existing building, constructing perimeter and pad footings, installing Glulam beams and columns, erecting Cross Laminated Timber wall and roof panels, and pouring a concrete floor slab.
Mechanical: installation of a sprinkler fire suppression system throughout the entire building, installation of rooftop HVAC units and ducts, as well as the installation of a 3' hydraulic lift between levels.
Electrical: rationalisation of the existing electrical system and the provision of power to all of the systems in the atrium addition.
Architectural: installing the new thermal envelope, exterior storefront windows, interior walls and doors, millwork, exterior louvres, and reconfiguring an accessible bathroom.
Construction work will require that the chosen Proponent work closely with the Museum’s Exhibit Fabrication Contractor who will be working simultaneously. Permits for construction will be the responsibility of the RMDC and the City of Rossland.
Proposal Deadline & Delivery
Proponents shall submit one (1) electronic version of the Proposal in PDF format via email. Proposals will be received until 15:00 Pacific Time on March 19, 2025.
