Job Opening - Collections Manager

The Collections Manager will work with existing staff and current and new volunteers to complete a number of collections management and exhibition projects. This includes managing a small group of collections-trained volunteers to complete a reorganization project in the collections and archives storage, instituting key recommendations from Canadian Conservation Institute’s August 2017 facility assessment, coordinating a fundraising project to preserve an important horse-drawn carriage, managing public requests for access, research, or photos, managing any incoming object or documentary history donations (including a backlog), evaluating possible collections database programs, managing updates to permanent displays and outreach projects, and more collections management and presentation tasks.

Student Job Opening: Collections Assistant

The Collections Assistant will work with the Collections Manager and trained volunteers on various projects throughout the job term, including:

  • Work with staff and trained volunteers to work through the accessioning backlog

  • Assist the Collections Manager in updates to permanent exhibits throughout the museum

  • Institute key recommendations received from the Canadian Conservation Institute facility assessment on storage reorganization

All staff assist in the general operation and maintenance of the museum, archives, visitor centre, and discovery centre, including assisting with major events, and programming.

Part-Time Student Job Opening: Museum Assistant

The Museum Assistant is responsible for the daily opening, operating, and closing procedures associated with Museum operations. This includes conducting interpretive tours that provide information on Rossland - the Golden City, assisting with the operation of the gift shop, admissions, concession, and Visitor Centre, including sales, inventory, restocking, statistics, etc., planning and scheduling group visits, tours, and special events, and routine maintenance, including painting, cleaning, and light grounds keeping. If the interest and background exists, students may also have tailored projects such as historical/archival research, marketing/graphic design, early childhood education, among other opportunities. As well, as a community history museum, we cover a lot of different themes and topics, and the opportunity to create and complete a project as it relates directly to their field of interest will also be made available throughout the job term.
