Veterans Week Writing Campaign

We are once again doing a community writing campaign to show Rossland's veterans our appreciation. Stop by the RMDC to write a postcard or colour a picture for us to send to our local veterans on Remembrance Day.

During Veterans Week (November 5-11), the RMDC will also have temporary exhibitions on Rossland's war effort in the J.D. McDonald Hall and at the Rossland Public Library.

Boo Town!

Experience the most frightful season of all at the Rossland Museum! Our boom town has been turned into BOO Town this Halloween, and the ghouls are itching for you to hear their stories on your self-guided tour through the museum's outdoor exhibits! John Kirkup will be policing the grounds, our dead miners have a perilous tale to share, and we hear there may have been a gruesome train robbery on our CPR Caboose.

Community Stories - Virtual Museum of Canada

We are pleased to announce an exciting new bilingual exhibit that will be developed with an investment by the Virtual Museum of Canada (VMC). The topic we have selected is the story of the development of ski racing on Red Mountain from the 1890s to the 1980s! This exhibit will be part of the VMC’s ‘Community Stories’ collection and will be available online in 2021. We are excited to share this incredible history and showcase our community and achievements on a national platform.

Happy Birthday to Olaus Jeldness

What was once heralded as a grand spectactor sport, ski jumping and downhill skiing are now massively popular sports enjoyed by many. In Rossland, this winter sport - now integral to the community spirit - was prompted by an enthusiastic Norwegian miner, Olaus Jeldness. Due to his passion and skills, the hills around are populated by people who love skiing and has developed our mountainside village into one of the province's ski meccas. Here is to Olaus Jeldness!
